Moorhead hockey asks for a $500 volunteer check

Moorhead Youth Hockey requires a $500 volunteer check made out to MYHA, brought to the mandatory parent meeting in September before registration is complete. It is a deposit against volunteer hours rather than a fee, but you need the check in hand on the night — budget for it.

Fargo has two youth hockey associations

Fargo Youth Hockey Association (the Fargo Freeze) is the general-population body. Fargo Angels Hockey is a separate association tied to the Catholic schools. They are not alternative spellings of the same club — you pick one.

“Fargo Freeze” is also a volleyball club

The Freeze name belongs to Fargo Youth Hockey's teams and, separately, to an unrelated volleyball club. Searching the name alone lands you on hockey.

West Fargo Fusion is now West Fargo Softball

West Fargo United and West Fargo Fusion merged. The organization is West Fargo Area Youth Fast Pitch Association, trading as West Fargo Softball. The Fusion name still circulates locally but registration runs through the merged club.

Go to FM Athletics' own site for football, not the old league portal

FM Athletics runs registration through its own site. An older TeamLinkt league portal is still online and still advertises a previous season, so it looks live and tells you the wrong thing.

Basketball is one league fed by several clubs

F-M Youth Basketball League is the league your child plays in, not the place you sign up. Registration happens through your home association — Moorhead Basketball Association, a park district, or the YMCA.

Fargo USA Softball is not youth softball

Despite the name, it runs men's summer and fall leagues. For girls' fastpitch, use West Fargo Softball, Moorhead Crush, or Fargo Area Sports' fastpitch program.

Rec leagues run on parent volunteers

West Fargo's flag football league says it could not run without volunteer coaches, and Tri-City refunds a volunteer head coach's own child's registration fee. If the email asking for a coach lands on you, what coaching a T-ball team is actually like is on the blog.

Fargo Youth Hockey Association (Fargo Freeze)

Runs a First Shift intro program for children new to the sport, separate from the main season. Levels run Termite, Mite/8U, Squirt/10U, PeeWee/12U, Bantam, 15U and Phantoms; scholarships are applied for online.

• Sports: Youth ice hockey — Mite/8U, Squirt/10U and travel divisions; First Shift intro-to-hockey program; summer skills sessions
• Signup: Open through the summer. The early-bird discount closes mid-August, and travel registration must be complete by mid-September to guarantee a place at Squirt/10U and PeeWee/12U.

West Fargo Hockey Association

Publishes its whole key-date list on the registration form itself, which is why this is the most precise entry on the page. Note that travel closes in mid-August while the same form stays open for the youngest levels into October — the homepage button says REGISTER either way.

• Sports: Youth ice hockey; separate Intro to Hockey program
• Signup: Opens 1 July. Travel teams close 15 August; Termite, 6U, Mite and 8U close 4 October; rec league closes 25 October.

Moorhead Youth Hockey Association

Bring a $500 volunteer check made out to MYHA to the parent meeting. Home rinks are the Cullen Hockey Center and Moorhead Sports Center.

• Sports: Youth ice hockey — Tots, Mite/8U, Squirt/10U, Peewee/12U, Bantam/15U
• Ages: 4 and up; free Try Hockey nights for children not quite 4
• Signup: Open through the summer. A mandatory in-person registration and parent-meeting night in mid-September completes it, and one parent must attend.

Fargo Angels Hockey

A separate association from Fargo Youth Hockey, tied to the Catholic schools.

Learn to skate

West Fargo's Start To Skate, at Veterans Memorial Arena. Register for the level your child is at rather than the time slot that suits you — the sessions are graded, not interchangeable. Skate rental is not offered and helmets are strongly recommended. Fargo Parks and Moorhead Parks run their own beginner skating programs if the timing suits better.

• Sports: Beginner ice skating, before any hockey commitment — a leveled curriculum from first steps on the ice through crossovers, with an intro-hockey track
• Ages: Ages 3 to adult; the youngest level has a parent on the ice alongside the child
• Signup: Six-week sessions on Wednesdays or Saturdays from late September to early March; the next starts 4 November on Wednesdays or 7 November on Saturdays. Register for your child's skating level, not the time slot.

Tri-City United Soccer Club

Over 3,000 families, by their own count. Separate contacts by program: rec@, competitive@ and extras@tricityunited.org.

• Sports: Recreational, pre-competitive and competitive travel soccer, plus futsal and indoor
• Ages: FUN-damentals from 18 months to kindergarten · Recreational pre-K (minimum age 4) through 6th grade · Pre-Competitive U7/U8 in 1st–2nd grade · Competitive U9/10 in 3rd–4th · Competitive U11/12 in 5th–6th · Competitive U13+ and high-school leagues in 7th–12th · STEP, a non-travel structured track, in 3rd–6th
• Season: Recreational soccer runs year round, in fall, winter and spring/summer seasons.
• Signup: Winter recreational soccer (pre-K to 6th grade) runs as two six-week seasons. Registration for the first, played 31 October to 12 December, closes 5 October, then reopens 8 October with a late fee if spots remain. Registration for the second, played 23 January to 7 March, closes 7 December.

Park district soccer

West Fargo and Horace park districts both run short beginner soccer sessions — a lower-commitment starting point than a club season. Moorhead Parks runs adaptive soccer.

• Sports: Entry-level recreational soccer
• Signup: West Fargo's indoor soccer league runs 23 January to 6 March; a late fee applies from 20 December. A shorter indoor camp runs 28 October to 18 November, and again 6 to 27 January.

Fargo Area Sports — youth baseball

Uses Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth age charts; Red River Valley League players may use either the Cal Ripken or Little League chart and pick their division accordingly. The Registration link in their own menu was returning an error page — start from the youth baseball page.

• Sports: Youth baseball, 8U through 14/15U, plus a fall league; also runs a fastpitch program
• Ages: Fall league is open to ages 5 through 12U
• Season: Summer, with a separate fall league
• Signup: Fall league closes mid-July.

West Fargo Baseball

Runs an indoor facility open to players who have completed their 7U season.

• Sports: Recreational Red River Valley League baseball and separate travel baseball
• Ages: 5/6U and 7U through 15U in the RRVL
• Signup: Their most recent published season is 2026. Check with them for 2027.

West Fargo Softball (West Fargo Area Youth Fast Pitch Association)

Formed by the merger of West Fargo United and West Fargo Fusion. Serves West Fargo Public School District families. Also runs the Dads & Daughters Diamond Classic on Father's Day weekend, with 10U, 12U, 14U and 16/18U divisions.

• Season: Spring and summer, plus fall ball

DGF Baseball Club

Serves Dilworth, Glyndon and Felton. Searching “Dilworth youth sports” mostly returns results for a Charlotte, North Carolina neighborhood of the same name.

FM Athletics

The area's main youth tackle league, running since 1972, with over 1,300 players across more than 60 teams. Contact is quickest by email at fmafootball@gmail.com. Note that an older league portal on another platform is still online advertising a previous season — use the link above.

• Sports: Tackle football
• Ages: Eligibility is by grade: students entering 4th grade through 6th grade. No exceptions for summer birthdays and no redshirting.
• Season: Autumn
• Signup: Opens in late March. Entries after 1 July go to a waitlist and may not be accepted.

Flag football

Run by all three park districts plus the YMCA and Upward Sports — a gentler entry point than tackle, and the only option for the youngest ages.

• Signup: West Fargo's fall league has finished. Its winter indoor sessions start 2 November for kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th–8th grade, and 4 January for 2nd and 3rd.

Moorhead Basketball Association

Scholarships are available — ask when you register rather than assuming the published fee is the price.

• Sports: Competitive and travel basketball, boys and girls; Mini-Hoopers introductory sessions
• Ages: 3rd through 8th grade, plus Mini-Hoopers for pre-K to 2nd grade
• Season: Winter
• Signup: Registration opens 1 August; tryouts follow in September.

F-M Youth Basketball League

You do not sign up here. Register through your home association — a park district, Moorhead Basketball Association or the YMCA — and your team plays in this league.

Moorhead Juniors Volleyball

• Sports: Club volleyball
• Ages: Girls in grades 5–11 who attend or are schooled in Moorhead Public Schools
• Signup: Tryouts and team selection take place in November.

Inspired Athletics Volleyball

• Sports: Club volleyball
• Ages: 12U to 18U, by level
• Season: Mid-December or early January to early May, depending on level
• Signup: Tryouts are 25 October for 12U–14U and 22 November for 15U–18U.

Fargo Freeze Volleyball

Unrelated to Fargo Youth Hockey's Freeze teams despite the shared name.

• Season: December to early May; spring-only teams from mid-March; 12U from late January

Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead park districts all run rec volleyball — the no-tryout route, and the sensible first step before club.

Park district swim lessons

Fargo Park District's lessons run Monday to Thursday, for a week in winter and two weeks in spring and summer. Summer lessons go outdoors above 62°F and move indoors when the weather turns, so check before you drive over. Moorhead Parks runs its own lessons, including parent-and-child classes for the very young. Sessions fill before the posted deadline — book early rather than at the cutoff.

• Ages: Ages 4 to 14, but a child must be at least 5 to start Level 1
• Season: Winter, spring and summer sessions
